Julie Hanson, Senior Vice President, State Education Programs Independent Community Bankers of America

Ignite Your Learning Journey

Julie Hanson is Senior Vice President of State Education Programs for the Independent Community Bankers of America. Julie joined ICBA in 2011 and has been banks helping banks for over 30 years on topics including payments, treasury management, and product and client-relationship management.

In Julie's current role she works with the Council of Community Bank Association's leadership and staff to enrich and expand educational efforts for community bankers nation-wide.

Julie holds degrees in Economics and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Rehman Kahn, Cyber Risk: Insights from Rehman Khan, AVP Cyber Risk Control, Travelers

Currently at Travelers, Rehman Khan is an Assistant Vice President on Cyber Risk Control. He oversees cyber risk assessments of current insured and new business prospects.  


Rehman is an experienced security practitioner with experience spanning 15+ years and multiple industries.


He has played key roles in developing cyber capabilities for multiple major financial institutions, a major pharmaceutical, and the Dept. Of Defense. 


His areas of interest are risk discovery, regulatory and internal compliance, and security program buildout & strategy.


Rehman has been a featured guest speaker and consultant at several regional and international cyber security conferences.

With his extensive experience at First National Bankers Bank, Mr. Kimel will share insights into banking strategies, risk management, and industry best practices.

Ted Lansdale, Management Liability Claims: Insights from Ted Lansdale, Managing Director & Counsel, Travelers

Ted Lansdale serves as a Managing Director & Counsel on Travelers Bond & Specialty Insurance’s Management Liability First Party Claim team where manages a team of claim professional handling claims under the Financial Institution Bond and Travelers’ crime policy.  He is a former manager of Travelers’ cyber claim team and previously handled a variety of management and professional liability claims.  Prior to joining the insurance industry, Ted was associated with Morrison Mahoney, a Boston-based law firm, where he defended professional liability actions against a range of professionals including lawyers, accountants, and real estate professionals.  Ted graduated with honors from New England School of Law where he was an editor of the New England Law Journal and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Colgate University.

Shonda Sammons, Advocate Builders

With over 30 years of experience, Shonda Sammons works with employers and employees to provide coaching, guidance, and expertise to build brand advocates. Shonda takes a hands-on approach to gaining a thorough understanding of a company’s strategic and branding focus, fosters abilities in employees, and uncovers hidden advantages in a company’s existing workforce.


Shonda focuses on helping companies identify in-house talent, matching skill sets of employees to job responsibilities, evaluating recruitment efforts, and converting everyday order-takers into enterprising champions. She is also the author of a tracking program that offers the ability to manage advocate relationships and to track cross-sells and referrals company-wide.

James Sills, Independent Community Bankers Association (ICBA) Secretary

James H. Sills is secretary of the Independent Community Bankers of America® (ICBA), the only national organization that exclusively represents community banks.

He also serves as president and CEO of Mechanics and Farmers Bank in Durham, N.C.

Sills serves in many roles at ICBA. He is a member of the ICBA Executive Committee, board of directors and Federal Delegate Board. He also serves on ICBA’s Policy Development Committee and is Executive Committee liaison to the Consumer Financial Services and the Mutual Bank Council.

Active at the national level, Sills serves on the board for the National Bankers Association and is past chairman for the North Carolina Bankers Association. He also serves on the Federal Reserve Board of Richmond and chairs its Audit and Risk Committee. He currently serves on the Executive Committee and is the DEI chairman for the North Carolina State Chamber. In addition, he serves on the Board of Visitors for North Carolina Central University.

Sills has a Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College, a master's degree in public administration from the University of Pittsburgh and he is also a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Banking.
